Musicians tend to be defined by their means of musical production. One’s instrument, literally “a tool or implement, esp. one for delicate or scientific work”, brings with it the baggage of history and technique; a person with a cello necessarily assumes the role of cellist, along with a set of expectations which leaves little room for exploration. This work attempts to dismantle, both literally and figuratively, these expectations, a process which necessarily must target the tools and implements themselves in order to reimagine the relationships between the instruments and the people holding them.
